Controversial MIM leader passes away

Controversial MIM leader and former Karwan MLA Mohd Muqtada Khan alias Afsar Khan is no more. Afsar Khan died on Friday following prolonged  illness at a private hospital in Jubilee Hills.

Afsar Khan first got elected to the Assembly from the Karwan constituency in September 2003, but the House was dissolved within a month.He was subsequently elected in 2004 and 2009 from the same segment. During 2014 elections he has been asked to step aside on account of his deteriorating health.

Afsar has been involved in several controversial incidents in the past. He was in news few years back when he fired in the air over a dispute with GHMC officials at Abids.Afsar Khan's alleged attack on junior doctors at Niloufer Hospital in December 2007 had sparked a protest by medicos who struck work for several days. He was also one among the three MIM MLAs who attacked controversial Bangladeshi novelist Taslima Nasreen at Press Club when the novelist was here to release the Telugu version of her book 'Shodh'. He was also named an accused in the attack against 'Siasat' editor.
