Sumutra Mahajan elected as Speaker of Lok Sabha

MP Sumitha Mahajan has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of 16th Lok Sabha. She is only the second woman Speaker of the House. Meira Kumar is the first to preside over the House and she offered her services in the last 5 years of UPA 2.
The motion recommending Sumutra Mahajan as Lok Sabha Speaker has been moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and supported by BJP senior leader LK Advani.
Sumitha Mahajan is an 8-time MP and longest serving woman parliamentarian. She has been representing Indore parliament constituency since 1989. She served as a Union Minister in BJP-led NDA Government between 2002 to 2004.
Congress MP Kamal Nath who is the senior most member of Parliament will be the pro-term speaker for 16th Lok Sabha.
