Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport which is the first greenfield airport in eastern India will be operational from May 10th this year. What's make it even more special is the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the first passenger to fly out from this brand new airport.
On May 10th, Narendra Modi flies to New Delhi from Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport in Andal, West Bengal. Civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapati Raju and civil aviation secretary V Somasundaran will accompany PM on his way to Delhi in an Indian Air Force aircraft.
Commercial Operations, however, only begins from May 12th with Alliance Air ATR-48 aircraft arriving to Andal from Kolkata.
Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport spread across 650 acres is India's first privately constructed aero city project located in Andal and the project costed to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore. It can also handle large planes like Boeing B 737-800 and Airbus A320.
