Union Minister Chiranjeevi came in support of the film Madras Cafe which has stirred a controversy because of the kind of subject choosen by the makers. Tamil groups have stalled the release of the film claiming that it showed Tamilians in a negative light and the exhibitors in Tamilnadu refused to screen the film.

Chiru says he can't understand why do people stall the releases of films despite the censors clearing them. "CBFC is the supreme authority to decide whether a film should release or not. Once, they have given a clearance any film should release. I don't understand what makes these people to object or stall the release. It's unfair," he said.

Madras Cafe received positive reviews and it is running with packed houses across the World, except Tamilnadu. The film is about the clash of LTTE and Srilankan Government and the failure of Indian government to stop the assassination of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
