Tamil Nadu witnessed vibrant polling on April 23, 2026, as voters across all 234 assembly constituencies cast their ballots in a single-phase election to elect the next Legislative Assembly. Over 5.73 crore electors turned out amid tight security, with polling stations buzzing from early morning. The contest features a multi-cornered battle primarily between the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the AIADMK-led front headed by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and the debutant Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay, who is contesting solo in all seats. Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman also fielded candidates across the state. Results are scheduled to be declared on May 4, 2026.

The election campaign was electrifying, marked by massive rallies, youth engagement, and intense competition. Actor Vijay’s entry into politics added significant star power and drew huge crowds, particularly among first-time voters and the younger generation.

Adding glamour to the democratic process, several Kollywood celebrities stepped out to cast their votes and encourage public participation. Prominent names who exercised their franchise on polling day include:Thalapathy Vijay (TVK chief)

Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan (along with daughter Shruti Haasan), Ajith Kumar (one of the earliest to vote), Dhanush, Vikram (Chiyaan Vikram), Trisha, Music composer Anirudh Ravichander, Filmmaker Atlee, Other stars like Sivakarthikeyan, Gautham Ram Karthik, and Khushbu Sundar were also seen at polling booths. The enthusiastic participation of celebrities highlighted the deep connection between Tamil cinema and politics, a tradition dating back to legends like M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa. As counting day approaches, all eyes are on how the new political equations and star influence will shape Tamil Nadu’s future.
