Over 5.73 crore electors turned out amid tight security, with polling stations buzzing from early morning. The contest features a multi-cornered battle primarily between the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the AIADMK-led front headed by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and the debutant Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay, who is contesting solo in all seats. Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman also fielded candidates across the state. Results are scheduled to be declared on May 4, 2026.
The election campaign was electrifying, marked by massive rallies, youth engagement, and intense competition. Actor Vijay’s entry into politics added significant star power and drew huge crowds, particularly among first-time voters and the younger generation.
