Actress Trisha Krishnan who is creating trend on social media with her recent sugar baby song exudes elegance in her latest Instagram post where she is seen wearing a chic black outfit from @divaspopupofficial, styled by @ekalakhani and her team. Captioned "So?!? #ThugLife Promotions!", the post hints at her promotional look for Mani Ratnam’s film Thug Life. The lighting and backdrop enhance the dramatic appeal of the photo, captured by @lakshmiijagan. The ensemble and styling reflect a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary aesthetics, setting the tone for the film’s promotions.

The second song from Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film Thug Life, titled Sugar Baby, has surprised many fans on the internet. The song features actress Trisha Krishnan and will release on May 21. The film's producers, Raaj Kamal Films International, shared the news online along with a poster of Trisha in a white saree, showered in money. They added, “No rules, just love,” hinting at the theme of the song.

However, the title Sugar Baby caused confusion and criticism. Many internet users felt the name didn’t match Mani Ratnam’s usual classy and serious tone. Some even joked if the legendary director was trying to appeal to Gen Z audiences. A few called it an “item song” and felt disappointed, as they expected something deeper from him.

On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), one user said, “Are you okay Mani?” while others shared memes and questioned the creative direction. Some mocked the previous song from Thug Life too called Jingucha wondering if these were really from a Mani Ratnam film.

Despite the backlash, there is still a lot of curiosity around Thug Life, which stars Kamal Haasan, Trisha, Silambarasan TR and more. The music is composed by AR Rahman. The film is set to release in theatres on June 5.
