Shama Sikander is known for her work in television shows like Yeh Meri Life Hai and Baal Veer. But behind the smiles, she once went through a very tough phase in life. In a recent interview, Shama opened up about her struggle with bipolar disorder and depression. She said, “15 years ago I was in a very bad state, I had severe depression, bipolar disorder.” She added that she came to know her grandmother may have had the same illness and used to behave in unusual ways. Shama shared, “She used to do things that made people say she was possessed... but because I am intelligent and live in today's times, I was able to understand that I am not possessed.”
She revealed that during her lowest point, she attempted suicide but was saved by her family. “I tried to commit suicide, and I was saved by my family... I wanted to come back as somebody else. Let’s make a deal. I am committing suicide now. You give me another birth,” she recalled. She had sent her bank details to her brother in her sleep, which alerted him. Her mother was reading the Quran when the family found her unresponsive. They rushed her to the hospital, but the staff hesitated to admit her because it looked like a suicide case. Despite all this, Shama overcame those dark times and is now an advocate for mental health. In March 2022, she married American businessman James Milliron and continues to appear in films and digital content.
