Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, the head of the Telugu news and entertainment network ETV and founder of Ramoji Film City, passed away at 87 in Hyderabad on Saturday morning.Rao had been receiving treatment for a few days and died at 4.50 am, according to ETV Telangana, a channel under the Ramoji Group.

He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan and is well-known for founding the Ramoji Group. This group owns Ramoji Film City, a famous production facility in Telangana’s capital. His body has been moved to his home at the Film City.

Born on November 16, 1936, Rao started Eenadu, a leading Telugu language newspaper, in 1974. As a producer, he supported 50 films and telefilms.

Recently, some old and rare pictures of Rao have appeared on social media. In one photo, he has a thick mustache, and in another, he is posing with his wife Rama Devi. These charming pictures are now trending online.
