She began her acting career in 2006 with the Telugu movie “Premante Inthe” where she played the character Pavani. Her performance was well-received, leading to several subsequent roles in Telugu cinema. Notably, she starred in films like "Boss" alongside superstars like Nagarjuna Akkineni, as well as "Bommarillu Baskar" and "Parugu".

Poonam’s versatility was further showcased when she branched out into the Kannada film industry with her debut movie "Thangigagi" in the same year. Her talent and charm captivated audiences across different languages and regions. Additionally, Poonam made a mark in the Malayalam film industry with movies like “Zacharia Pothen Jeevichirippundu”.

In 2022, Poonam portrayed significant roles in multiple films. She played the Queen of Travancore, Mathruppillil Kalyanikutty Amma, in Vinayan's "Pathonpatham Noottandu" and also starred as Kunjipaathu in "Mei Hoom Moosa". She also ventured back into Tamil cinema with the movie “Gurumoorthi”.
