Poonam Bajwa: From Miss Pune to a Popular South Indian Actress

Poonam Bajwa is an Indian actress and model known for her work in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada films. Born on 5 April in Mumbai to a Punjabi family (father Amarjit Singh Bajwa, a naval officer), she was crowned Miss Pune in 2005 and began modeling while studying English Literature at Symbiosis International University, Pune.

She made her acting debut in the 2005 Telugu film Modati Cinema as Sindhu, after being spotted during a ramp show in Hyderabad. She quickly followed with Boss (2006) opposite Nagarjuna and Parugu (2008). Her Kannada debut came with Thangigagi (2006), while her Tamil entry was the successful Seval (2008). She later appeared in Thenavattu, Kacheri Arambam, and Drohi.

In Malayalam cinema, she debuted with China Town (2011) and worked with stars like Mammootty. Notable later roles include Aranmanai 2 (2016), Masterpiece (2017), NTR: Kathanayakudu (2019), Pathonpatham Noottandu (2022) as the Queen of Travancore, Mei Hoom Moosa (2022), and Gurumoorthi (2022).

As of 2026, Poonam has appeared in the TV series Arabia Kadali (2025) and Sshhh (2026). While major new film projects remain limited, she continues selective work across South Indian industries, known for her glamorous screen presence and supporting roles.
