Prime Minister Supports Asiatic Lions On World Wildlife Day

Today, the Prime Minister reminisced about his time as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, highlighting his visit to Gir on World Wildlife Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness of the world's wild fauna and flora. Gir, renowned for its Asiatic Lion population, holds a special place in his heart due to the conservation efforts made during his tenure from 2001 to 2014. "This morning, on World Wildlife Day, I went on a Safari in Gir, which, as we all know, is home to the majestic Asiatic Lion. Coming to Gir also brings back many memories of the work we collectively did when I was serving as Gujarat CM," he shared, emphasizing the collective work put into the conservation of these magnificent creatures.

The Prime Minister's visit was not just a trip down memory lane but also a testament to the significant progress made in the conservation of the Asiatic Lion. "In the last many years, collective efforts have ensured that the population of Asiatic Lions is rising steadily. Equally commendable is the role of tribal communities and women from surrounding areas in preserving the habitat of the Asiatic Lion," he highlighted, acknowledging the crucial role of local communities in these efforts. His words underscored the success of collaborative conservation efforts that have led to a steady increase in the Asiatic Lion population, showcasing how community involvement can make a significant impact on wildlife preservation.

Before embarking on the safari, the Prime Minister expressed his commitment to preserving biodiversity, aligning his message with the global observance of World Wildlife Day. "Before setting out on the lion safari, Modi, on the occasion of World Wildlife Day, said that the government was committed to protect and preserve the incredible biodiversity of our planet. "Every species plays a vital role — let's safeguard their future for generations to come. We also take pride in India's contributions towards preserving and protecting wildlife," he stated, reaffirming the government's dedication to wildlife conservation. This declaration highlights the broader goal of ensuring the protection of every species to maintain ecological balance and biodiversity.

In continuation of his commitment to wildlife conservation, the Prime Minister chaired the seventh meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) at Sasan Gir, the headquarters of Gir Wildlife Sanctuary. This meeting underscores the government's active role in wildlife policy and conservation strategies, demonstrating the importance of high-level leadership in environmental initiatives. Furthermore, the implementation of "Project Lion" in the Gir Sanctuary reinforces the government's targeted efforts to protect the Asiatic lions, recognizing Gir as the only habitat for these lions in India. This project highlights the focused conservation strategies aimed at preserving one of India's most iconic wildlife species, ensuring their survival and thriving in their natural habitat.
