Television actress Nyra Banerjee, who has made a name in South Indian cinema, once shared how she joined law school because there were no lawyers in her family. But deep down, she loved dancing and often joined college-level dance and fashion shows. She said, “I always heard casting directors say, ‘Tumhaara face and body South Indian films ke lie perfect hai.’ I was a little voluptuous and not so skinny at that time.” Even though she was unsure at first, casting directors compared her to stars like Sridevi, encouraging her to take up acting in South films.
When Nyra told her parents about the offers, her father didn’t agree and her mother also hesitated. Nyra said, “They also said that if one of them is travelling with me to Mumbai and overlooking, then it’s worth giving a shot.” Several astrologers had told her family she would shine in the arts, and soon she found herself acting in a Sanskrit TV show called Kadambari. She added, “You’re leaving acting for studies. What nonsense?”
