She gained fame for her roles in Bengali cinema, with her debut film being Bapi Bari Jaa, where she played the role of Dola. She has since become one of the most recognized and highest-paid actresses in the Bengali film industry. Apart from her acting career, Mimi is also a member of the Trinamool Congress party and served as a Member of Parliament for the Jadavpur constituency from 2019 to 2024.
