In recent Instagram picture, Jonita looks glamorous in black dress. The caption reads: “She doesn’t wanna be a hot girl. She wants to be ICONIC.”

Meanwhile singer Jonita Gandhi recently opened up about her difficult past growing up in Canada and later in India. Jonita who is currently making waves with her new song Beparwai, shared her struggles with bullying due to her facial hair and other insecurities.

In a candid confession, Jonita revealed, “I used to get a lot of racist comments while growing up. But I was more bothered about being bullied for my facial hair. I used to have curly side-locks. They used to call me Godzilla. I think they just thought I was ugly. I used to come home and cry.” This painful experience stayed with her and made her feel less than beautiful.

When Jonita first came to India from Canada, she felt further disconnected. She explained, “While growing up in Canada, I had enough brown people around me. However, I felt like an outsider when I first came to India.” She also faced unfair treatment from rickshaw drivers, who charged her double just because she was new in the country.

Jonita also opened up about struggling with body image and thinking nobody would appreciate her for who she is. “I was convinced I was never going to have sex because I couldn’t accept my own body; how can someone else appreciate it? I still have some of those issues; but now, I feel much more comfortable and proud of myself,” Jonita said.
