It shows the struggles of growing up, finding identity, and facing society’s pressure through the story of Ramya, played by Anjali Sivaraman. Set in Tamil Nadu, the film highlights how young girls deal with strict family and cultural rules while trying to follow their own path.
Directed by debutant Varsha Bharath and backed by Vetrimaaran and Anurag Kashyap, the film skips gloss and dives into discomfort. Amit Trivedi’s music, his first in Tamil cinema, offers quiet intensity without dominating the frame.
Premiered at Rotterdam, the film took home the NETPAC award. It’s not polished for comfort; it thrives on raw honesty, which earned it applause on international grounds.
Bad Girl doesn’t hand out conclusions. Instead, it leaves viewers unsettled, questioning. With its theatrical release lined up for September 5, the film promises more than entertainment; it offers confrontation, and Anjali steps right into it.
