President Droupadi Murmu Presents Padma Awards to 71 Eminent Personalities.
Among those who received the Padma Bhushan were popular actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna.
By: Tupaki Desk | 29 April 2025 1:54 PM ISTPresident Droupadi Murmu honored 71 distinguished individuals with the Padma Awards for 2025 at the first Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The awards are one of the highest civilian honors in India and recognize contributions across various fields like art, medicine, literature, sports, public affairs and social work.
Out of the 71 recipients, four were awarded the Padma Vibhushan, 10 received the Padma Bhushan, and 57 were honored with the Padma Shri.
D. Nageshwar Reddy and Dr. Lakshminarayana Subramaniam were given the Padma Vibhushan for their remarkable work in medicine and art respectively. M.T. Vasudevan Nair and Osamu Suzuki were also honored with Padma Vibhushan posthumously.
Among those who received the Padma Bhushan were popular actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and former Indian Hockey captain Sreejesh P.R. Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi was awarded the Padma Bhushan posthumously.
The Padma Shri recipients included famous cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, former SBI Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya, American author Stephen Knapp, flautist Ronu Majumdar, and classical Carnatic vocalist Dr. K Omankutty Amma.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other dignitaries were present at the grand ceremony.
Speaking to Akashvani News, Padma Shri awardee Arundhati Bhattacharya said she was recognized for her efforts in expanding the Jan Dhan Yojana, a major financial inclusion program.
Ronu Majumdar, who received the Padma Shri for his contribution to art, thanked the government for appreciating his work and dedication.
Dr. K Omankutty Amma, a Carnatic music singer, shared her happiness and remembered her early days working with All India Radio, acknowledging its role in shaping her career.
Stephen Knapp, an American author, also expressed gratitude for being recognized and appreciated by the Indian government.
