Born on December 28, 2001, in Mississauga, Ontario, Maitreyi made her acting debut in 2020 as the lead Devi Vishwakumar in the Netflix hit series Never Have I Ever (2020–2023). The Mindy Kaling-created show brought her instant global recognition for her authentic portrayal of a Tamil-Canadian teenager navigating high school, family, and identity.
She lent her voice to Priya Mangal in Pixar’s Turning Red (2022) and has since transitioned successfully into films. Her live-action film debut came with Slanted (2025/2026), a sharp comedy-drama. She played Ella in Disney’s Freakier Friday (2025) alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
As of April 2026, her ongoing and upcoming projects are exciting: she stars in the Netflix Bollywood dance comedy Best of the Best (co-starring Priyanka Kedia), voices in The Angry Birds Movie 3 (December 2026), appears in the Jane Austen adaptation The Netherfield Girls as Lizzie Bennet, and has joined Season 2 of Prime Video’s Elle (the Legally Blonde prequel). She is also part of The Twits and other voice projects.
