Former TV host and actress Anasuya Bharadwaj has been at the centre of some heated debates online ever since the Shivaji controversy erupted. While Shivaji stated that his intention of asking heroines to get dressed in sarees is right, though his choice of words is wrong, Anasuya’s hotshot responses to the same are going viral.

Coming in the backdrop of the recent Shivaji incident, the post quickly drew attention, with many praising her confidence and others questioning the timing and intent behind the message.

Anasuya claimed that society claims to admire strong women but often becomes uncomfortable when they live on their own terms. She emphasised that true masculinity respects a woman’s choices instead of trying to control them. She adds that real empowerment means honouring a woman’s strength and individuality. Many of her fans feel that her words reflect everyday struggles faced by women.

On the flip side, the criticism surrounding the post is also equally strong. Some netizens accused Anasuya of hypocrisy, pointing to some past videos of her from shows like Jabardasth, where she enjoyed cringe comedy targeted at women’s glamour and looks. They say that empowerment should also include self-reflection and accountability.
